Industry is where you learn from people who have done your job. That only works if you can trust what you share here. This page says, in plain words, what we collect, who can see it, and what you control. Industry is run by Adrata Inc.

Who we are

Industry is operated by Adrata Inc. ("we"), the company responsible for your personal data. Reach us at privacy@adrata.com. Industry is invite only and for professionals aged 18 or over.

What we collect

What you give us. Your name, email address, handle, headline and photo. We strip the hidden location data cameras add to photos before storing them. If you sign in with Google, we receive only your name, email address and profile picture (the openid, email and profile scopes), nothing else.

Your work history. The companies, roles and dates you add. A role is verified when the email you signed in with belongs to that company, or when an admin there confirms it. Anything else is stored as self-reported and never shown as verified.

Your role and goal. Your function, level, company stage and one career goal, if you tell us. They shape your feed and nothing else.

What you share. Posts, replies, voice and video notes, messages and Letters, the topics you follow, and what you save.

What you do here. When a post is on your screen for a moment we record that you saw it, at most once per post per day, and we record what you upvote, save, reply to and try. If ads are running, we record which ads you saw, clicked, hid or reported. These rows are yours and are never listed to anyone; they are only counted.

From other people. A member may mention you, invite you, or confirm that you worked together. A member you worked with may ask you to pass on an introduction; you are not involved until you choose to be.

Your device. Browser, device type, IP address and the pages you load, to keep Industry fast, reliable and safe.

Who sees what

• Every member: your name, photo, handle, headline, current role and company, and what you post. Only members; there is no public profile and search engines cannot index Industry.
• People you worked with: your past roles. By default your full history is visible only to members with a verified overlap. You can open it to everyone in Settings, and close it again.
• Only you: your career goal, your function and level, what you have viewed, and what you have saved. "Why you're seeing this" shows your role and goal to you, never to anyone else.
• The author: when you upvote a post, its author can see it was you. Everyone else sees only the count.
• Your network, by first name: when you save, reply to or upvote a post, people you verifiably worked with may see your first name on it as the reason it is shown to them, for example "Saved by Marcus and Elena". Nobody outside your network sees your name on it.
• Only the people in it: your messages, notes and Letters. Search covers only conversations you are in.

In Settings you also choose whether you appear in search, whether you appear in others' "Worked with" lists (off by default), whether people you did not work with see your current company, and who can message you directly (by default, people you worked with; everyone else lands in Requests).

Your employer

An admin at your company can confirm where you work and edit the company's page. That is all. They cannot see your career goal, your messages, what you read or save, or who you talk to. Industry never tells anyone that you are looking for your next role.

Why we use it

• To run Industry: sign you in, verify roles, deliver messages, rank your feed and show counts on posts. This is necessary to provide the service you asked for.
• To keep it safe: prevent abuse, handle reports and blocks, and protect accounts. This is our legitimate interest, and yours.
• With your permission: everything behind an opt-in switch, such as sharing your career path, appearing in "Worked with", letting Adrata use your posts, warm introductions and profile-based ads. You can withdraw any of these in Settings.
• Because the law requires it: records we must keep, and valid legal requests.

Your feed is ranked automatically by verified experience relevant to you: who in your network, and who in your role, found a post useful. It never reads data from Adrata's sales product; a test in our code enforces that. Every "why" line is true. A feed is only a reading order; we make no automated decisions about you with legal or similar effects.

Adrata, AI and agents

Adrata is the AI assistant inside Industry. By default it can use your posts only when they are already on your own screen. It helps other members with them only if you turn on "Let Adrata use my posts when other members ask", which is off until you do. Today we do not train AI models on your posts, messages or work history. If that ever changes, we will ask you first and update this page.

A member can run an agent that drafts posts for them, and that is all an agent can do: its owner approves and publishes every post, it cannot read other members' data, message or vote, and its posts are always labelled.

Adrata also makes software for sales teams, and Industry keeps the two apart. One connection exists, off by default: "Use my network for warm introductions". Turn it on and an Adrata seller who verifiably worked with you can ask you to pass an introduction along; "Where you appeared" in Settings lists every time that happened and the setting that allowed it.

Ads

Industry may show ads, only in For you, always labelled, from Industry itself or from an advertiser we approved by hand. Political, gambling, crypto and data-broker ads are refused. An ad never carries a member's name, face or content, and advertisers cannot track you.

By default ads use nothing about you. If you turn on "Use my profile to choose ads", an advertiser may pick a topic, a seniority band or a company size from fixed lists, and an ad must reach at least 300 members or it does not run. Advertisers see aggregate numbers only, never who saw or clicked, and never a figure below 300 people. You can hide any ad or advertiser, report it, and see why you got it.

Cookies and your device

One cookie keeps you signed in, for a day, or 30 days with "remember me". Your theme and unsent drafts stay on your device. We use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

Where it lives and how it is protected

Your data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the United States, encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit with TLS 1.2 or later. Uploads sit in a private bucket. Every table is guarded by row-level rules in the database itself, so a request on your behalf can reach only what you may see.

A few providers help us run Industry: AWS for hosting and email. If we add a service to transcribe voice and video notes, we will name it here first. Each may use your data only to do that work for us, under contract. For members in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, transfers to the United States rely on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum. Beyond that, we share personal data only when the law requires it, to protect members from harm, or, with notice to you, if Industry changes hands.

How long we keep it

For as long as you have an account. If you leave Industry, the text you wrote is removed at once, you vanish from every "Worked with" list, and you appear as "Former member" wherever a post or thread still needs a name. If you delete your Adrata account, everything is permanently deleted within 30 days, except records the law requires us to keep. Messages you sent stay in the other person's inbox, as a posted letter would.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can download everything we hold about you from Settings, correct or remove anything, delete your account, withdraw any permission you gave, ask us to restrict or object to a use, and ask for a copy in a portable form.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland these are your rights under the GDPR, and you may complain to your data protection authority. In California these are your rights under the CCPA: we do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we never treat you differently for using your rights. You may name someone to act for you. Use Settings, or email privacy@adrata.com; we answer within 30 days. If you signed in with Google, you can also revoke Industry's access in your Google Account.

Under 18

Industry is for working professionals and not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly keep data about anyone younger. If you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes

When we change this policy in a way that matters to you, we will tell you before it takes effect and update the date at the top. We will not quietly widen what we collect or who can see it.
